The history of Valentine’s Day
Where did this day of love actually come from? That is not an easy question to answer. It seems to be a melting pot of different (national) traditions that comes from the Christian, Roman and Germanic traditions.
Pope Gelasius named February 14th the holy Valentine in the year 496. So, who is he? Unfortunately we cannot find a clear answer to this, but it seems that this Valentine died as a martyr. Valentine’s Day is also linked to the Roman fertility feast. An old and popular party that sounds a bit more fun to us.
